En Pointe School of Dance is also pleased to introduce a new Craft of Choreography class. Craft of Choreography class will be taught using the international standard for dance competition: The Doris Humphrey Method. Dancers will have a daily lesson introducing one of the concepts of choreography such as level, dynamics, formation, floor pattern, contour and musicality. After the short lesson, students will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned through creation of short dance sequences and a critique session. At the end of the year, dancers will have the entire experience of choreographing a piece--from writing the proposal through planning the steps, selecting costumes and staging a premiere in the end-of-year recital.

Instructor Kristy Nilsson has studied five semesters of Doris Humphrey Method Choreography from renowned teachers LuAnne Carter, Priscilla Nathan-Murphy and Ko Yukihiro. Ms. Nilsson's choreography has been performed on fifteen companies in several states and has been honored with several awards, including the Southeastern Regional Ballet Association's Emerging Choreographer title, SERBA Gala Accreditation, second place for the national Project Choreographer award and adjudicates selection into three annual dance festivals as well as the once-a-decade national RDA Festival.

Choreography students are asked to wear black jazz pants, a solid-colored leotard and bare feet. Dancers should bring tight-fitting warm-up clothes to stay warm during lectures and critiques and should bring a pen and notebook to take notes.
