Emily Cheaves

"Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what the Lord has done for me." (Psalm 66:16)

Emily began her dance training at En Pointe School of Dance in January of 1998 under the direction of Kathy Thomas-Law. While she was just trying to find a simple hobby to fill time, she quickly fell in love with dance and developed a passion for ballet and the ability to worship the Lord through dance. In September of 1998 Emily began demonstrating for Creative Movement and young ballet classes at En Pointe under the direction of "Miss" Kathy. It was during this time that she developed a strong desire to teach and to have the opportunity to grow and train young dancers to love and appreciate dance as she so quickly did.

In 1999 Emily had the opportunity to attend two summer workshops, Art Reach (now Au Deum) led by Randall Flinn and Arts Triumphant led by Yvonne Salcedo Williams. These workshops greatly impacted her dance training and her direction for dance in a Christian atmosphere. In the spring of 2000 Emily auditioned for Praise In Motion, directed by Kathy Thomas-Law and Rhonda Oltjenbruns, and became a member of the company. In the fall of that same year she also became part of the staff at En Pointe teaching Creative Movement and Elementary levels of ballet.

Emily is now in her 9th season as a company member of Praise in Motion and has been privileged to dance at events such as the 2000 Salvation Army Millennial Congress, the annual Atlanta Hunger Walk, many church and mission functions, and at Praise in Motion's own annual performances, "The Gift" and "In His Name". Emily is also in her 8th year on staff at En Pointe and currently teaches ballet for all levels, ages 3 through Praise In Motion's Company. She has been blessed to have received the majority of her training under the direction of many wonderful Christian leaders in the dance community. God began this path 10 years ago by answering a simple prayer asking for direction and guidance.

It is truly amazing to see God's grace and faithfulness in our lives. He is able to do far more than we could ever imagine when you "Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed." (Proverbs 16:3)
